About Us

Orion Home Inspection, LLC is a veteran owned small business.

I started Orion Home Inspection, LLC after retiring from a 28 year career in the U.S. Navy and nine years in the research and development business.  My Navy career took me literally all over the world. I moved myself and my family 26 times in a 28 year career. Those moves, along with the purchase of several homes, taught me a lot about what I wanted to see in a home. There were times when I bought a house and had very little time to settle in before I was deployed overseas. On some of those occasions, I was concerned about the condition of the house I had left my family in. I spent some sleepless nights worrying about them. Regardless of your occupation, I want to provide you with and inspection of your new home that will give you the peace of mind and confidence in the condition of the home to avoid any sleepless nights.

I gained my knowledge of home inspection through formal education at Pellissippi State Community College, The Home Inspection Institute, and a long history of home ownership including construction of and modification to my own homes. I know what a good safe home should look like and I translate that into the inspections that I conduct. I am licensed by the State of Tennessee (License # 1046). I am a certified home inspector through the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors (InterNACHI). I comply with the State of Tennessee and the InterNACHI Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for both. I constantly educate myself on home systems and construction techniques. I don't always know the answers, but I know how to find them.

Since I started Orion Home inspection in 2012 I have completed hundreds of inspections on everything from an 1820's log cabin to large homes on the lake. Customer satisfaction is my goal, and its always nice when you see repeat customers or referrals from previous customers. My focus is on my customers. I work with the customer, be they buyer, seller, or owner inspection for other purposes, and strive to inspect a home as if I were going to put my family in the home.

The reports I write are comprehensive without being nit picky. I try to provide customers with the information they need to make an informed decision. As I go through my inspections I continually ask myself "Is it safe?" and "Will this affect the value of the home?"

Where did the name (Orion Home Inspection) come from?  I spent 28 years in the U.S. Navy as a pilot, flying an aircraft called a P-3C, nicknamed the Orion, after the constellation, Orion the Hunter. The aircraft was used primarily as a submarine hunter, and I spent over 20 years chasing Soviet submarines around the world. As a pilot, attention to detail was instilled in me early on. As you can imagine, when taking an aircraft out for 8-12 hour missions, you must pay attention to the smallest details to ensure you and your crew return safely. Likewise, hunting submarines in the open ocean required digging out the smallest clues to be successful. That career carries over to my home inspection business, where attention to detail is required to ensure you,the customer get the best information possible in order to make your home purchasing decision.
